An Amusing Confession

With Magnus Carlsen making the news again (unofficially number one in the world now) I remembered the time our youngest son was born.

Our youngest son was born a few years ago. I was really, really interested in chess back then. I was playing daily and studying the game and such. During the course of my studies, the chess phenom Magnus Carlsen was garnering a lot of attention for his incredible chess talents.

So when our son was born, I tried really hard to convince my wife to name him Magnus. But she didn't like the name. She liked the name even less when I told her it was the name of a chess prodigy.

So instead of naming him after the next world chess champion, we ended up naming him after we heard a contestant's name on The Price is Right.

So was that before or after Bob Barker retired? If Bob was still around, I can see where you're coming from. Otherwise, not sure what to tell you.

  2. It was when Bob was still the host.

  3. I like this kid a lot for his aggressive style and amazing endgame technique. And he is so young. Future world chess champion for many years.

He is a great player so he will have his shot for the WC crown someday. But already beginning to yell that he will be the next WC is a bit over the top, afterall we dont know what the future will bring. Maybe even a bigger talent then Magnus, or a horrible accident in which Magnus is killed or ... .

Just to say that we only can wish, hope, but certainly cant fortell the future.

  5. I'll re-write the last paragraph for chesstiger ... maybe the humor of the last paragraph isn't as obvious.

"So instead of naming him after potentially-possibly-maybe-if-he-doesn't-die-or-if-someone-better-than-him-comes-along-next world chess champion, we ended up naming him after we heard a contestant's name on The Price is Right."

I'm sorry, I couldn't help it. I actually think the revised paragraph is more humorous. :-)
